While I didn't read those I loved Tom DeMarcos "The Deadline" and "Peopleware", really great for the holyday season

On a couple projects Code Compete 2 was required reading. If you don't have a copy of that book, get it. Read it. Study it. You'll be amazed what's in there. Check it out on Amazon first.
The key thing I'd say about Code Complete, other than every developer should have it and read it, is that it answers every question asked in this thread (and about 100,000 others).
