Nothing to be embarrassed about. If we don't tell each other how we code, it is difficult to improve, because there are a lot of assumptions, on both sides.
Using parameters is something that is helpful to know about for just about anything you may want to achieve.
The more you will understand script parameters and be comfortable with them, the more you will want to use them everywhere.
