But if I remember correctly, site license is about 1/3 of the price, so if half of the people use FileMaker, it's a good deal for you.
And sometimes it's worth to buy a site license for 25 people instead of regular licenses for 20 people.

Absolutely Christian, it is a calculation to make, providing you meet the minimum 25-user entry level.

However, if you have 15 admin people using FileMaker and 100 non-users on the payroll, which also has to include temps and contractors, then the site license isn’t the appropriate option.

Ah! gosh it took me a while to understand what you meant

Site licence requires that every employee and temp be licenced.
Whereas regular licences can be bought for the users only.

oversimplified explanation

Pretending that licences are 9$ per head and site licences are 3$ per head

Company A: 40 employees 10 users
Company B: 40 employees 15 users

Site licence for A: 40x3=120
Site licence for B: 40x3=120

Regular licences for A: 10x9=90
Regular licences for B: 15x9=135

It is honestly where, if a business owner can get away from focusing on how many licenses they have to buy, it's an easier calculation. You obviously need enough for each person using FileMaker. However, consider the following scenario:

15 User licenses ( user license ) = $2,520.00/yr
25 User licenses ( site license ) ≈ $1,680/yr

That site license number has a lot that affects it's price. User count, number of years purchased, perpetual vs maintenance vs annual, etc. But you get the idea.

If you have 12, 15, 18, 25 employees, you know that your annual cost to have Claris FileMaker is the same. If you purchase 70 licenses, and only 40 of those cost you less than only purchasing 40 licenses, what does it matter. Not aimed at you directly, just a thought that I run across a lot.

Ah Josh. The wonders of FileMaker licensing. So obvious it has changed with every release for the last 4-years. We await with baited breath for v19.:grinning:
