To Neo, or not to Neo? That is the question

Over the years I've posted a number of newly released hardware reviews, particularly in the early days of Apple Silicon. As a celebration for releasing our new website, my first Field Note is focussed on the adoption of a MacBook Neo as my trusty 14" MacBook M1 Pro is approaching pastures new. Am I mad? Please let me know what you think - https://www.craftict.co.uk/macbook-neo/

Thanks for sharing, Andy. Not my workflow (so much cloud-based stuff), but interesting read. I schlep a 16"MBP (M4) and still curse the 'small' screen when working on site with clients.

The neo is great for students or for us as a travel notebook. But since we developers have a bit of money, we can get the MacBook Air for a few upgrades like more RAM or a second high speed USB port and a MagSafe power connector.

Anyway, I hope lots of people that liked to have a Mac can now get one.

And for my development I get a Pro chip as my Xcode projects compile there 3 times faster than on the Air.

My codirector (and wife) would entirely agree with you @daleallyn . Years ago during the MacBook 12” era Apple had a TV advert with a big guy with a small MacBook and a tiny guy with a 16” MacBook sitting side by side on a plane. Every time Val and I fly together and get our laptops out it reminds me of that ad.

Christian, I totally agree with you. I may be able to get away with just the Neo if I relied on the PCs for processing grunt. However, I’d not consider continuing this setup without a Pro chip machine in the office I can access remotely. Equally, I feel much better leaving a £500/£600 (ex-VAT) laptop in a remote location than I would a £3.5k MacBook Pro. I can also get a lot more bang for my buck with a Mac Mini Pro and some desk real estate back.

I am still trying to get over how good this little Neo is though and goodness knows how good an A19 Pro and 12Gb RAM would be.
