What it takes to move forward

Hi Andy
Good look with chasing the pdf devil !

Hi Cecile

Apologies if I caused confusion, I was just trying to justify why I can’t be more involved at the moment as we have some issues we’re dealing with that haven’t been created by ourselves.

You’re doing a great job with this and I really hope we can have an independent forum to complement some of the others. Not at the cost of the official community, but as an enhancement to it. The more the merrier!

Kindest regards

Andy

It seems to me that the number of posts and responses on the official forum have reduced significantly - nothing scientific but just a feeling when perusing the site. What a shame and i’m not convinced they know how to resolve it either.

Love this Discourse based forum though - it needs to be kept as lean and clean as possible - I going to be using it for my business forum software too.

I agree, since about a week, the volume of posts has reduced quite a lot. Usually it's the case when getting close to DevCon, but my guess is it's not the explanation, but I may be wrong.

The actual number of posting is not down as much as you think. It is down a little, but really not that much. It’s just not as obvious because the way the posts are displayed.

That is part of the issue then really. I really wish they would get a move on with the improvements.

I refrain from saying so, but so true .

Discourse has a way of listing the posts that is good: all the posts are displayed in the order they were created, but when a reply to a post, say it is to a post one or two screen over, there is an arrow that is used to show the replied to post just above the reply. Clever, really clever !

@Markm49uk, @planteg, @jormond: just a personal suggestion, but I think discussing the official community and what we like / don’t like about it (progress / lack of progress, … you get the idea) is not really “moving us forward” as the discussion title seems to be asking cues from members to get momentum about this community. Maybe we should agree to either:

  • keep that for discussions happening on the official community (where I believe that feedback is valuable, if you agree with that is up to you, I can understand and respect if you disagree)
  • create a new topic about the official community for people to share their opinions about (there are no wrong opinions, that is my opinion  )

@Cecile: my suggestion for this topic would be to think about closing it down. Maybe do a recap of what we got out of it. If we plan on keeping it open, it would be nice to get a reminder of the specific items we are looking from members that will keep us “moving forward”.

Sorry to all, I missed that @Cecile already re-purposed the communication into " What do you want to see happening?" and decided to keep this thread going while acknowledging the “derailed” aspect of the topic. Curious about when we will archive it, as I still feel like this topic is a strange receptacle for the new replies that get added to it.

You're right, I just provided a short answer to @jormond . Looks like the moderators will be very busy !

@Bobino, you are absolutely right. This thread in this place is about this place.

I think it is appropriate that if someone feels the need to tell something to a community custodian/owner, the best thing is posting it at the community concerned.

I have highlighted most posts that stay in line with the topic and closed the thread. Let’s continue the discussion in What do you want to see happening?
