17 FileMaker Clipboard Bugs — verified, with reproducible test files

During the R&D for ai2fm v2.5 we found, documented and reported to Claris International Inc. a set of 17 bugs in FileMaker’s clipboard serialisation. This page is the account of each one — but unlike a changelog, every claim here is backed by files you can download and reproduce yourself.

For each bug we ship a folder containing the FileMaker file itself plus real captures:
<Step>_<year>.fmp12 — the actual FileMaker file, one per version, so you can open the exact step we tested and copy it yourself.
<Step>_Source_<year>.xml — the exact clipboard FileMaker produced when we copied that step.
<Step>_Result_<year>.fmscript — what ai2fm made of that clipboard.

where a recovery exists, the corrected files that prove the fix round-trips.

Open the file, copy the same step in your own FileMaker, and you will get the same clipboard.

Claris Asked Us to Validate the Fix. We Retested All 17 Clipboard Bugs

Two issues are fixed. Fourteen clipboard bugs remain unfixed, and one additional WinSoft build defect remains unresolved.

FileMaker Pro 26.0.2 shipped with a release note stating that it “fixes issues relating to copying and pasting script steps in the Script Workspace.” Claris Support asked whether any issues remained after the update.

We answered by running the complete catalogue again.

We installed FileMaker Pro 26.0.1.51 and 26.0.2.212 side by side, together with 22.06 and 22.07, on macOS and Windows. Every bug was re-captured, labelled with the build that produced it, and compared against its earlier evidence.

Two are fixed. Perform RAG Action (219) now preserves the Response Target on asynchronous Add Data steps, and Configure Prompt Template (226) now keeps a Google model provider as Google. Both fixes are clean and precisely scoped.

Fifteen issues remain unresolved in FileMaker Pro 26.0.2: fourteen documented clipboard bugs remain unfixed, plus one separate WinSoft localized-build defect remains unresolved.

  • 2 fixed: confirmed independently on both platforms.
  • 14 bugs remain unfixed: their 26.0.2 clipboard captures are byte-identical to 26.0.1, proving the defects remain.
  • 1 additional WinSoft build defect remains unresolved: it is still under investigation by Claris.
  • Bugs 12 and 13: the exact reproducer files submitted to Claris still reproduce byte-for-byte.

The public catalogue now records the 26.0.2 status of all seventeen issues, identifies the build behind every capture, and includes a downloadable test suite. This is reproducible evidence rather than a summary that must be taken on trust.

For users still running 26.0.1, ai2fm's protection remains unchanged.

FileMaker's clipboard contains no version marker, so ai2fm detects the damaged clipboard shape rather than guessing from a build number.

A damaged 26.0.1 step is still warned about or repaired; clean output from the two corrected 26.0.2 steps passes through the same code normally.
