Tahoe + FMP22.0.2 = Copy-Paste doesn't always work?

Is anyone else experiencing problems with copy-paste shortcuts working inconsistently?

I’m running FMP 22.0.2 (fully patched) and MacOSTahoe (fully patched) and since going to Tahoe sometimes when I hit command-c or command-v it pastes, and sometimes it doesn’t. I turned off MBS in case that was the problem and it’s still happening. The only other plugins I have are the two for 2EmpowerFM search, which I don’t think would affect it.

Anyone else seeing this? Any possible workarounds?

You’re not alone. I had similar issues before 22.0.1 came out, which that release resolved. Now it’s even worse. I also use Windows via Parallels, and it’s not a problem there. Just Tahoe.

Ok thanks. I feel validated at least…

I’m under the impression that macOS broke the last 1984 feature that was still working a few versions ago. It’s now completely random, and not only in FileMaker.

Out of curiosity, does it work using contextual menu ? If it does then someone touched something he shouldn't have.

Microsoft is very good at that, constantly breaking something that worked. I thought Apple worked better than that. Did they hired new developers that were with Microsoft previously  ?

Yeah it’s werd, it works with the menus and the contextual menus, but not the quick keys… they keys are greyed out in the main menu for some reason…

I received a message:

There is a known issue with FileMaker Pro (all versions) in macOS 26, Tahoe, in which the keyboard shortcuts for Copy and Paste, Cmd-C and Cmd-V, do not work in the Specify Calculation dialog. Claris is investigating this issue, and we've also reported this to Apple in case part of this is an issue in macOS itself.

I hope it’s something Apple can fix for all apps.

I set up some temp Keyboard Maestro macros which are taking care of things for now

It looks like the Tahoe 26.0.1 update that Apple released today has solved the problem.

Whew.

I think I spoke too soon. Still having some issues. Sorry to raise any premature hopes.

ouch… calling out Apple like that publicly. A little risky…

Maybe this is a way to tell Apple to stop breaking things in macOS, after all this is where Microsoft excels .

but absolutely earned. You can’t kill such essential core function - that’s what thorough tests are made for.

For an independent company, that would be one thing, but since Clarence is 100% owned by Apple sounds like they’re walking on thin ice. Apples just not the kind of company that wants anyone on their team badmouthing another part of the team publicly.

Also, wow, this is apparently an apple bug. I don’t see it happening with any other software so there’s something that Claris is doing. That’s not standard.

You might consider NOT upgrading the OS until your mission critical apps have been brought up to compatibility?? Expect a new FMP release sometime before the end of the year to address this ….

keys are greyed out in the main menu for some reason

Note: the keyboard shortcut symbols in menus have been permanently gray since macOS Big Sur 11. Some genius UI developer at Apple thought it would be helpful to de-emphasize them in a way that implied to any long-term Mac users with even a minimal attention to detail that those shortcuts were disabled.

It finally seems fixed in 26.1. At least it wasn’t FM’s fault.

I can’t believe this is fixed. I reported it on Claris Community ~6yrs ago and was told that they couldn’t replicate the problem. I recently discovered what was doing it… if you selected something and you watched the pointer/cursor … it took a little moment for it to switch from cursor to pointer. This was made much worse, if you had Accessibility Settings, 3-finger-drag turned on (something I’ve used since forever). The behaviour wasn’t always consistent, but generally, it would only take 2 or 3 copy/pastes for it to start happening. I don’t think it was solely an OS problem, because it didn’t happen everywhere.
