FileMaker Pro. The early(ish) days

I found this while having a clear out. 10-years of FileMaker Pro evolution from 1997 version 4 to 2007 version 9. I do not miss the days between the first relational version 3 and v6 before the relationship graph was released (despite the early pain), but interesting to see that Constrain and Extend Find was introduced in version 6,

Those heady days! Version 7 contained XML import/export. That led me to learning XSL, and I started spending a lot more time in the terminal.

Thanks for sharing. Amazing how many of the features we take for granted that had to start somewhere!

I had some exposure to v4, but started or real with v6. I think script triggers came just after this in v10, if I remember correctly.

I donā€™t know if this is interesting to anyone, but Iā€™ve kept a simple FMP file tracking the now 30 distinct FileMaker versions (including the pre ā€œProā€ versions of the 1980s) going all the way back to Nutshell. I started it to be aware of the differences in recent versions over time, but with every new version Iā€™ve added a new entry. Iā€™ve also added links to the Clarisā€™/FileMakerā€™s release notes for each version going back to Version 12.0, for both the client and Server. Some of the text comes from FileMaker and other third party sources, but Iā€™ve had tried to edit/summarize each for some degree of consistency.

If I had the time, Iā€™d put together an updated version of what Andy shared from Version 9.0. For recent versions especially, it would be helpful have an ā€œat a glanceā€ reference to the core features of each release. I personally build everything for the most current version of FMP, but I understand thatā€™s not always possible.

Again, I have no idea if this file is interesting to anyone but me, but youā€™re welcome to it.
