In-Your-Face Marketing

It was installed with a license file on a Mac mini. Maybe the Linux. Version behaves differently.

Fortunately, like @harvest here, I don't see any pop-up ads in the admin console either. I am a solo entrepreneur and have only a 5 seat license. On premise on a Mac mini here in my office.

I assume CLARIS will quickly fix this bug! :stuck_out_tongue:

If I understand your posting, Claris already stated above the marketing is not a bug but a "way to reach customers". Hurray! The bug is (IMHO) Claris' misdirected marketing itself.

Based on this discussion, we removed the Claris platform ad from the FileMaker Server Admin Console today.

We may turn it back on in the future with messages more relevant to the professionals likely to see it -- and including an opt out option many of you suggested.

It's all good as long as you can opt-out. (Opting in would be optimal, but that's not how companies seem to work these days..."You really need to see this message!".

I would like to get emails from Claris when a new version of FileMaker is released. I think this used to be the case, but doesn't seem to be happening lately, and I've missed noticing a few version updates. Are those emails still sent? Is there a way to opt-in to those emails?

We do send email when we release new FileMaker versions and make announcements in the Claris Community Product Announcements group and sometimes on other forums (like this one).

It's possible that your email address is opted out from Claris emails completely. Try filling out this form FileMaker Subscription Preference Center.

You can also send me a private message or email with the email address you would like Claris to use and I can check on your opt-in / opt-out status.

Hi @RosemaryTietge

I tried the form, but when I filled it out there was only the option to Unsubscribe from All.

I did not click that, and then submitted the form, and it redirected to https://www.claris.com/?utm_redirect=fm

and never let me choose which emails I wanted.

I tried it in Safari (with an Adblocker running) but also in a completely stock version of Chrome browser.

Same result in both.

Seems broken?

I'd like to express my thanks to everyone at Claris for their response on this. In the scheme of things at the Claris end this must be a fairly low priority issue but the company's willingness to implement change based on our feedback is impressive.

thank you

Thank you, @RosemaryTietge, for participating in this discussion. I admit to being surprised at the speed and result of Claris' decision, one that I am happy to read.

Thank you everyone for your opinions and, especially, for your constructive criticism. This is, in my opinion, how we should approach a company to effect change.

If I may add a suggestion for future placement of in-product product advertisements:
The header area on top of the server console has a notifications button which can display messages when clicked on.
Said header area has ample space left for a 'Product Info' button or however it may be named.
Nothing in this area risks getting in the way of an administrator logging in for work:
