Offered like the previous ones "Associate" and "Specialist". You can take it without any supervision or time constraints. Sadly IMHO this is a placebo certification and harms the platform.
I think it only harms the credibility of the certified developer. For people who work through the training and take the test, they are learning the platform more than someone who may only be casually using FileMaker. More knowledgeable users / developers is a win for the platform, so maybe the tiered approach has a bit of merit. It’s worth exploring the implications of the way it’s done now versus how we’ve had to do it up until recently. The certified developer is something to signal to an employer that you know your stuff. The new associate, intermediate, expert badges are just kind of an indicator that if you don’t know, then you at least know where to go to find the answers. It seems like a solution for the user. Something to get them engaged and feeling good about using the platform. That being said, I now have several certified FileMaker Developer documents that I worked hard and spent money, often at times when I didn’t have the money to spend, to obtain. Should that be the future of the new generation signaling their knowledge and skill with the platform? I’d be more interested in seeing them walk me through a solution they built.
