Moving Outlook files from Win 10 to Win11

Hi all,

I come here with this question because Microsoft, as usual, does not help.

Background

I have am old computer from 2012 running Windows 10 Pro, and as you know, Windows 10 goes out of support unless you send $$$ to Micro$oft. I bought a brand new computer running Windows 11. On top of that I have a Microsoft 365 subscription

Moving Outlook 365

On the old computer, I use Outlook, I mean the real Outlook, well, the one with PST files. I want to move my accounts to the new computer, running Windows 11. Outlook (classic) is installed.

On the old computer, I exported a PST file for a test, copied it to a USB key and inserted the USB key on the new computer. I started Windows (classic), expecting I would be able to import, stupid me .

See, Outlook (classic) on Windows 11 is different than on Windows 10. When I fire it up, it ask for an email account, but the does not offer to import a PST file, no, it offers POP or IMAP accounts... I thought I would outsmart that dawn software by first adding an account I have on outlook [.] com. Afterwards I got the Interface, went to File, but there I can't create an account by importing a PST file. From the data Tab I may open a PST file, but that's only a file, Outlook can't figure out it's an account. Oh, I tried to create a question on the Microsoft Community, but the text box where you type your question just eat every character I type - maybe because Canada is not yet the 51st state ???

I was wondering if one of you succeeded in doing that fairly simple (realy ?) operation, and if so how he proceeded ?

There are 2 apps I need to use that run only on Windows, and if I was not the case, Windows would have been banned, replaced by Mac computers only.

Thanks

Hi, @planteg , I'm not a Windows guy, but I had a ChatGPT window open so decided to ask there for you. I have exported data in Office365 and imported to same on different machines, so I was curious about your issues. I'm pasting the link to the prompt results in case it helps you. I assume if I delete it from my account the link will break (?) so I'll leave it until you figure it out.

Good luck!

Edit: It turns out the shared link doesn't break if I delete the chat from my account, as Open AI creates a new public instance of the query.

Just for giggles, here's the same prompt with Grok: https://grok.com/share/c2hhcmQtMg%3D%3D_155a764d-dbbd-479b-8ebe-3f7ad6ed061e

Similar info, but less verbose. I didn't study it, so maybe there's a different tip there.

Why not just dump Outlook and import your data (and domain name) into Proton? At least then you’d have a company interested in your privacy.

Just an idea…
