Windows Update Warning

Heads up — I recently ran a Windows update on my PC. Microsoft seems to have uploaded my desktop to the cloud (as opposed to the local C: drive) and changed folder permissions to “read only”. These changes prevented one of my scripts from creating a file on the desktop. I had to update the script to write to the D: drive instead.

It's not a Windows update that did that, it's Onedrive. That piece of scrap bring your Desktop to the cloud and each time you think you create a file on your Desktop on C:, it i redirected to you OneNote account. Eventually you will top the maximum size and then Microsoft will ask for more money.

I know because I want through all of this. My advice is to remove OneDrive from your computer, and afterwards you will be able to manage your computer yourself, instead of leaving Microsoft take the control.

Thanks, appreciate the info. I’ve used One Drive for years (nothing serious) but this is the first time I’ve had an issue. My desktop has always been on my C: drive. Now it’s on One Drive. I still think the Windows update made the switch.

Microsoft is clever, they may let you use OneDrive for some time and then get in the way through an update... This kind of update should ask for permission before doing that kind of change. IMO it's not an update.

for my clients this was introduced with the November 2024 update for Windows 11 - that is where our troubles started

Want to know how stubborn can Microsoft be ? I removed OneDrive from my Windows computers about a year ago. Tonight I created an Excel file - Microsoft 365 -, and when I typed Ctrl + S, I was suggested to save my file to Documents on OneDrive :open_mouth:.
